Case study: CAPE VERDE video production for KUSH COMMUNICATIONS

CAPE VERDE AFRICA HISTORY VIDEO

VIDEO PRODUCTION COMPANY IN CAPE VERDE

CUSTOMER: KUSH COMMUNICATIONS

HEADQUARTERS: LONDON, UK

ABOUT: Kush Communications produces films, shows, and programmes for tv and other media.

THE CHALLENGE

Our customer was a producer who was collaborating with journalist Zeinab Badawi. They’re working on the second series of her history documentary, ‘The History of Africa’. This documentary was made in association with UNESCO.  Based on their General History of Africa volumes, this series charts the history of the continent throughout the centuries. Zeinab wanted to do the video production in Cape Verde on the island of Santiago, specifically in Praia. They were also looking at the potential of the surrounding area.

Kush Communications needed a “one-man-band”  English-speaking cameraperson who could do his own sound with lavalier microphones. Even though it was a documentary film, they needed shot in a fast-paced “news” style, requiring the cameraperson to be quick on his feet. They also needed a fixer to set up an interview with the Director of the Museu Etnografico on the 30th, acquire filming permits & accreditation, and drive our customers from location to location.

THE APPROACH – Video Production company in Cape Verde

Stark Crew provided an English-speaking cameraperson who could record sound on his own, as well as a Fixer. The Fixer informed our customer of important processes, such as a letter outlining the customer’s intentions and a letter of support from UNESCO; processing permits and accreditations; finding and confirming interviewees for the project. He also drove the customer to all of the filming sites.

THE RESULT

Stark Crew processed all of the accreditations and permits that Kush Communications needed. We also found and confirmed interviewees. And we even helped them shoot with a talented, locally-based cameraperson. From the moment our customer arrived in Cape Verde, Stark Crew took care of all their needs and provided them with transportation. In short, our customer got exactly what they wanted. Overall, it was an easy and efficient experience for them.  Most of all, they were very happy with the service and footage.

THE SUMMARY
  • Kush Communications needed logistical and creative help for a documentary
  • Stark Crew provided them with a camera person and a fixer/driver
  • The cameraperson shot great footage
  • Stark Crew’s fixer processed all permits and accreditations and drove the customer around to sites.
  • Kush Communications was able to easily and efficiently shoot their footage.
  • Hence they were very happy with the results.
  • All in all, it’s a very successful video production in Cape Verde
